cannon pixma 2120 printer driver, opensuse 12.3 - kde

Thanks to help from here. I was able to get it working and extend it’s functionality. I installed the printer driver and changed the config file. When I did the upgrade install to opensuse 12.3, the printer didn’t work. I removed the printer from yast-printers. I tried to install the existing driver through the shell. I can’t find the tiff requirement in yast - software packages or opensuse website software packages. Need help, thanks.

This question has been asked here recently. You need to install the ‘libtiff3-32bit’ package.

software.opensuse.org:

There are a number of them which package? The one I installed didn’t work. Now, yast won’t show in the menu.

I tried the printer detect again from yast-printers. I selected the gutten print package . It’s printed, but it’s garbled. FYI

I recall assisting you previously with this printer:

Are you using the same driver?

I installed suse 12.3 and the driver stopped working so I reinstalled it. I got the lib missing on install. Suse software shows unstable version of missing lib. Which means?

Also, I suspect my printer is out of ink. Duh, faded and garbled, should have seen that. I may get a new printer anyway, if I can afford a new one. To save myself the hassle, get an later version of the cannon which amazon has many or HP.

The yast glitch is random. I can’t get any pattern.

My advice - go with HP. The support is far superior to Canon Linux support.

The print ink carts are 3x much. What about Epson? I found an xp-400.

I don’t print frequently, so I’ve lost a couple of inkjet printers due to clogging. Now I’m using a mono laser printer/scanner (Brother DCP7055), which copes with infrequent printing , and the toner cartridge is very economic, compared with most inkjet printers.

I don’t know how well supported this model is, although a search using ‘XP-400’ via the following page suggests that there are drivers available

Good luck with your choice.

Thanks, i’v made my choice. I searched amazon, pricewatch, office depo, wallmart, and staples. Got a $150 printer for $100, it was a ‘HP Office Pro 8100 ePrinter’. It had great price, good set of features. Ink carts is high, if I go local. Refills are cheap at costco and walgreens. FYI for all…

FYI, that printer didn’t work. I couldn’t get it to work with linux and I missed it didn’t have a scanner. New problem, New Topic. Don’t post again here.
