You can tell there is a new release of openSUSE coming out soon, because the number of “boycott Novell” and criticism of the Novell-Microsoft deal is showing up on blogs and news.
Annoying? Yes because it detracts from the fact of openSUSE’s release good points!
So it is important for a voice of reason to be heard in this dribble, even if it is drowned out by various trolls. This way people on-the-fence don’t feel so awkward for not joining the “riotous mob”.
as long as i get good office suite from novell, i am good. everything else can be tweaked. but the fact that opensuse could read MS office 2007 xml (.docx) files since 2007, is a nice return in exchange for a few insolent bog posts.
as for me GIRLCOTT(?) is great name we should make a trademark logo to this and patent
as for me this is like foo…
opensuse is great community distro and for me it best I making money with it… and all is legal. It is not all clear and working out of a box but AFIK all win boxes not working outofabox, have no any support in my regeon(if not say in whole country)(suporting about windows make some garage guys that in fact not really professionals in any sphere… they have only on good knowlege pick up mouse and click click click) And what is support doing is talk many houres on phone to make activations… in some cases bill at phone talk is can be compareble to cost of vista starter!!!
one thing that guys with winboxes take a point… it is gaming.
But I do not think that pc it is gaming box. for gaming I’ve bought playstation…
Yeah, most Win boxes do not come working “out of the box”, you need to install drivers for most of the components unless you get an Windows CD which contains all of the drivers that the manufacturer supplies only because they know what they install or could install on their own systems.
Outside of pre-built systems, Linux is many, many more time easier to install than Windows as Linux has had to deal with these driver issues since the early days and knows how to make it easier to manage.
I have to find it again, but there is a site I ran across that included a nice list of Games for Linux in different categories. Each category has a number of games to choose from.
Plus Mono is making strides into the Gaming world so if games start incorporating more and more Mono into their systems then it may be easier for them to port to Linux/Mac/Solaris and access a whole new market segment!
It is the never ending discussion and criticism about that big microsoft deal. Don’t listen to them because they are not better than those microsoft hardliners which only accept microsoft and nothing else beyond it, also the linux community have to accept that there is microsoft out there. The deal between microsoft and novell was a big step: microsoft does not ignore linux anymore!! This is a chance to improve the interoperability between the different operating systems so that all can co exist and everyone can use his/her preferred OS and all can benefit from this deal. Sure some don’t like it but should the linux community be as ignorant as microsoft was?
