Can*t start Wayland session

Hi everybody

Using
Betriebssystem: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20211025
KDE-Plasma-Version: 5.23.1
KDE-Frameworks-Version: 5.87.0
Qt-Version: 5.15.2
Kernel-Version: 5.14.14-1-default (64-bit)
Grafik-Plattform: X11
Prozessoren: 8 × 11th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-1165G7 @ 2.80GHz
Speicher: 15,4 GiB Arbeitsspeicher
Grafikprozessor: Mesa Intel® Xe Graphics

the system freezes after logging in showing a black screen only However, I am sure I was able to run a Wayland session not long time ago. Any ideas wht might have happened? Thanks for your support.

Video card???

wayland+KDE+NVIDIA is still rather flaky

It is a Mesa Intel® Xe Graphics processor.

That is a relativly new processor. DO thing work using X rather then Wayland??? Try a different user, maybe config problem??? May need a bug report.

Yes, I know. However, the X11 sessions runs perfectly and a new user can start using Wayland with nor prblems, too. So I guess I will have to check the configuration. Just not sure, where to start. Thanks anyway.

A similar thread here, where a new user account was found to work. Perhaps start with renaming (or removing) ~/.config/plasma* and ~/.config/kde* files, and see how that goes. You could also safely remove ~/.cache and restart the desktop session.

Unfortunately, removing the files you mentioned did not help in my case. Also, the measures taken in the similar thread did not solve the issue.
Maybe I should tra the KDE support.

Submit a Bug report.

Submitted a bug report almost 2 weeks ago now but didn’t receive any reply at all. The report is still rated at **no priority.

**The funny thing is, I can lalunch a Wayland session with my own login using

dbus-run-session startplasma-wayland

Any suggestion, why I can’t log in to a Wayland session via the login screen?

I suggest that you inform us on the bug number, or provide a link.

The bug number is https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1192579

Thanks for the bug link.

I don’t try Wayland much with KDE, because it still seems a work in progress. When I have occasionally tried, I have been using GDM rather than SDDM (because I also have Gnome installed). I have not seen the issues you describe.

KDE is not yet ready for Wayland: https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=KDE-Wayland-More-Fixes-November

This is not openSUSE issue - report it to KDE: https://community.kde.org/Goals/Wayland

Just found out, that the problem is caused by the fact that I am running ‘fish’ as my default shell. Maybe fish tries to read a different config file than bash does. Hope I can figure that out.

Thanks for your support anyway!

You may close your bug by yourself.

Yes, thanks, I am not sure whether I have to take a special action to do so, but I am closing that thread.
