Can Suse be upgraded to 12.3

I just installed 12.2 side by side with Win7. I love it. New to it but I think its great. My question is whether or not 12.2 will be upgradeable to 12.3 or if there is any info I need to know. Fresh install on the same partitions? Will that work?

You can do either. The process for in-place upgrading is pretty well
documented already. It helps if you reduce your repository list to the
minimum necessary -having more repos introduces additional complexity,
but it’s certainly not impossible to do an in-place upgrade.

I tend to do that, though I do prefer a fresh install. I have a fair
amount of data, though, so I like to do an in-place upgrade if I can.

Absolutely.

If you want the 12.3 ISO, you might want to d/l very soon. When 13.1 is officially released approx. a week from now (as of this writing), it won’t be the default so you might have to search a bit.

Briefly, although the DVD ISO method might be safest because it’ll provide you an offline method for recovery and troubleshooting if anything goes wrong(so is also a nice thing to have even later), the online “zypper dup” method might be faster at first because it only downloads what you absolutely need.

Since you may also want to upgrade to 13.1 soon, the general advice would also be to upgrade to 12.3 first even if a supported direct jump to 13.1 might exist. Incremental upgrades to each major version ensures capturing all architectural changes along the way with minimal chance for hiccups.

HTH,
TSU

It will not happen automatically

From a full DVD (not a live DVD) you can select upgrade.

You can also reinstall from any of the DVD versions but If you want to keep personal data, in the installer you must mark your home partition NOT to be formatted.

You can do it direct online by using zypper details are shown here SDB:System upgrade - openSUSE

It is not recommended to jump multiple versions.

BTW it is openSUSE not SUSE. There is a difference.

You can upgrade, or you can install fresh on the same place. If you are
new I generally recommend fresh install.
