Hey everyone. Despite using openSUSE since 12.1, I’ve never actually done an upgrade. I’ve always reinstalled.
I’m currently using LEAP 15.5. It’s the best OS I’ve ever used. Never lets me down.
I would like to upgrade to 15.6. I don’t want to reinstall this time. I’d like to try a system upgrade (unless that’s not recommended).
I did do a web search, but it wasn’t immediately obvious. Is there an official guide to how to do this? I there anything specific I need to know when upgrading between these two versions?
Thank you
The reference given above needs a review. It talks much about update to 15.4 from 15.5 even in the title.
The sed command presented is not accurate for upgrade from 15.5, see below:
sed -i 's/15.4/${releasever}/g' /etc/zypp/repos.d/*.repo
It could be expected that users can abstract the main information of the wiki…
And if you read the complete article you will see that it is already adapted to Leap 15.6. The old references are there to conserve the informations to make an upgrade from older releases <15.5
Hello, I was in the same boat as you were @Knightron_2. So far I’ve always performed a fresh install instead of actually upgrading from one major release to the other, but I decided to upgrade from 15.5 → 15.6 this time. The upgrade was done by following the steps in this guide: Upgrading the system and system changes | Start-Up | openSUSE Leap 15.6
I used the DVD / USB-Stick option by rebooting the machine from a freshly created 15.6 USB-Stick and selecting the “upgrade” option given during boot. Things to look out for:
- make sure that the old repos for 15.5 get removed during the upgrade process
- make sure that the new repos for 15.6 get added during the upgrade process
- make sure to resolve any conflicts that are shown before actually hitting the upgrade button at the very end of the automated upgrade routine
That’s pretty much it. The above worked like a charm in my case.
Cheers
