I am as lost as you. We must wait now for the X-perts .

From safe mode post the output of

zypper lr

Also what do you mean

…sax2 states that there is no X server…
It always says something similar normally it finishes that with no X server running.

Also to log in as user just the same as root but with your user name.

Also post the /var/log/Xorg.0.log but after trying to boot normally also the tail when trying a normal boot, it is pointless posting the log from a successful boot. You’ll have to save the content in a file then boot in from safe mode so something like

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log > xlog.txt
cat /var/log/boot.msg > boot.txt

ok many thanks for help

thanks i will try this and get back

thanks

I assume that this is done from the Konsole terminal

brian@linux-n2vd:~> zypper lr

I have boot.txt and xlog.txt but too long to post

Any ideas?>:(

OK thats fine was just checking that you didn’t have an experimental repository.

So next is a normal log in then try startx and save the xorg.log as the example but after you’ve tried startx. So boot normally…
Login as user and with the password.

startx > startxOput.txt

So I suspect that will just hang give it 30 secs or so, then press ctrl c.
Then …

sudo cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log > xlog.txt

then the boot so

sudo cat /var/log/boot.msg > bootlog.txt

Then after that the output from cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf this can be done from safe mode also the following can. Then after that post up the rpms installed…

rpm -qa | grep xorg

So in the end you’ll have 3 files,
startxOput.txt
xlog.txt
bootlog.txt
All created from a normal start that fails and leaves you in the terminal.
Then in safe mode we want the output from xorg.conf and rpms installed. Now there is a fair bit so I suggest you use a paste bin for all these bits, and post the links ansd we can look over them.

Choose one http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=pastebin&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

first 3 done and uploaded in the name signetone

last two uploaded
rpm and Xorg

Thanks

You need to post the links or certainly give me a bit more clarity

I presume you used the first one and filled in Your Name but that helps me none.

signetone private pastebin - collaborative debugging tool

I have just uploaded them again to here. Not used a paste bin before.

is that any good?

Cool just looking over bits sorry wasn’t sure tried one way but didn’t get it.

I am having th e same problem with can only boot into failsafe mode
I tryed startx but it fails I am looking at the Xorg.0.log.old. this must be from the result of doing an update last night then I shutdown my computer after it and booted it this morning . here is the log

Fatal server error:
no screens found

Hi

thats funny. I thought I had caused the problem but thinking about it there were 4 updates I think last night, that did not need a restart. But I did restart last night and found that my MBR had gone! Fortunately the forum has helped with the MBR and Vista although rubbish does work.

Good Luck

OK well the first thing that jumps out at me is you have 2 synaptic sections, does this sound correct to you? Afaik this is the mousepad I thought there was generally only one, but have been informed you do occasional get them with another in the middle of the keys.(Though you have one configured to replicate 5 buttons the other 7)

I’m still not sure the exact error you’re getting when you try sax2, failsafe iirc is a very minimal xorg.conf and vesa. Try mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/x11/mybackup.xorg.conf then try recreating one with sax2.

The why? Is, well looking at the serverlayout section it is only using mouse [1] and [3] so [5] isn’t being used. You could try commenting it out but probably just as easy to mv and create it.

Beyond that the only other thing I do notice you seem to have some memory things going on. Not being an intel user I can’t specifically help but there is a few options that can be used.

@Shadowmeph

Your problem is related to xorg.conf the screen section is wrong or missing using sax2 to recreate it should solve it just make sure to choose a display that fits closely to your one. Or use nvidia-xconfig i always found it did a better job than sax2 any way, but you’ll need to move your other one out of the way.

By the way try not to hijack threads, it can get confusing to the OP in some cases, and you get different replies for different problems.

Thanks

I do have a pad and usb mouse?

where do i try the text above? root? It works in fail safe - at least - after the above should it fail will it still work in failsafe?

Try mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/x11/mybackup.xorg.conf then try recreating one with sax2.

says cannot move … to … no such file or directory
I have put in the syntax exactly as above.

Thanks
