Can launch yast but not yast2

Hi

Fresh install of opensuse 11 x86_64, gnome desktop. I haven’t made any changes yet and cannot launch yast2. When I either click on the icon or launch in the console it asks for my root password then nothing comes up after I enter the password in. I can launch the text based yast in the console just fine, but yast2 refuses to come up.

How can I debug this?

exit to CLI or run in a terminal as user

go su and enter your password

now do this:

zypper ref

then do

zypper up

This will run updates. U may need to reboot after. Now try yast
