Can I sell application programmed in Java,Postgres

Hi there. I plan to develop an application in Java using Eclipse and PostgreSQL for database storage. I’m not much familiar with licenses :slight_smile: and would like know if I am allowed to sell such an app. I’m considering doing it open source, and at no charge, but still I would like to make sure what I can and what I cant, in case I decide otherwise. Sure you can. Just because you are using open source tools doesn’t mean your code has to be open source.

More importantly, even if your code is open source you can still make
money on it. Case in point, every Linux distribution out there is open
source by definition and many of them charge for maintenance, support, or
even slightly modified versions. As the creator you have a lot of
flexibility that others would not (since you assigned the license).
MySQL, for exampnle, has (or at least had for a long time) a dual-license
setup where some companies could pay for an alternate license in order to
not be subject to some terms of the GPL. That’s one of the weirder
examples, and I doubt it made as much money as most Linux vendors looking
to make money, but it’s an option.
