Can I delete content of /tmp folder?

Hello. I wonder if can safely delete the content in /tmp folder, without causing any troubles. I haven’t check it before, but now it is more than 1 GB big with lots of files and folders. Can I delete all of them, or do I have to pay attention to some things? I have suse 11.1, kde 4.2.2, thanks for your help.
