Can anyone recommend a new computer for under $400 with good video card?

I’m looking to get a new computer (my old one can’t even run openSUSE 12.1) but I have a few req’s that probably make the search hard:

  1. Needs to be under $400 (doesn’t need an OS, or keyboard or mouse or monitor)

  2. Needs at least DVI-capable (preferably HDMI) video card that is fast, has good memory

Anyone know of anything you’d recommend?

I picked up a refurbished HP system through buy.com for about $350. You
might look there and see what current deals are there.

The video card is OK - it’s not great (it’s a Radeon HD 4000 series card,
but it uses shared memory and apparently uses the CPU for some of its
processing), but it’s good enough for GNOME 3.

I’ve picked up two machines like this over the past 5 years or so and
they’ve both been decent systems for what I need. You can pick up used
nVidia controllers for about $50 that I’m told are more than adequate for
most games that require more power than the ATI controller.

(The system I’m using right now is the newest of these - it’s no longer
offered, but they seem to bring systems in on a regular basis at that
kind of price)

Go to WalMart or WalMart.com

You’d be better off building your own for under $400. You’d get away from the Microsoft tax.

Walmart doesn’t deserve my business. I avoid them like I avoid Microsoft
(well, even moreso than I avoid Microsoft, truth be told).
