lee@linux-aa3c:~>

I am using KDE with Firefox 27.0.1 or Chromium Version 33.0.1750.117 (252094):

  Linux 3.11.10-7-desktop
 openSUSE 13.1 (Bottle) (x86_64)

firefox gives an error

no video with supported format and MIME type found

Doesnt seem to even use flash for me… I even started with no addons
enabled and it still used the HTML5 player

Bring the Penguins Back! https://features.opensuse.org/316767
openSUSE 13.1
KDE 4.11.4

Plays fine here:

Btw, that’s a HTML5 video, so flash-player is NOT used here.
AFAIK Firefox uses gstreamer-0_10 to play back HTML5 videos, so maybe you miss the appropriate plugins package?
It’s an MPEG4/H.264 video in a quicktime container, I think you would need gstreamer-0_10-plugins-ffmpeg for that.

For chromium you would need chromium-ffmpeg from Packman.

Thanks for the reply, I will have to fiddle with it tomorrow and see if I have the right plugins.

BTW, the video would not play with firefox on OSX 10.8 either. I am not really worried as much about that although I do find it odd. Safari on the mac plays it right off.

I will follow up with the results, thanks.

Right. Firefox doesn’t support MP4 (and gstreamer) on MacOS X yet.
See also https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/HTML/Supported_media_formats#Browser_compatibility (especially the last note) and http://bluishcoder.co.nz/2013/08/21/html-media-support-in-firefox.html .

Thank you wolfi323, installing gstreamer-0_10-plugins-ffmpeg allowed me to play the video.

Plays fine in Konqueror which you have installed.

Yes, but that one also uses gstreamer-0_10, so as well requires gstreamer-0_10-plugins-ffmpeg just like Firefox.

Yes I am sure it should all just “work” but for some reason I had to install the gstreamer plug-in, I think it just happens sometimes for whatever reason.:expressionless:

What I would like to know is who is this gstreamer person and how can I give some gratitude, thanks gstreamer people.

???
There is no one “gstreamer person”.

You can find the project’s homepage here:
