Hello all,
I’ve done alot with linux routing. and Im currently useing a opensuse 11.1 box as my router. serving dhcp, port forwarding, and some other services. but it has come to a point where i need to add wireless to my network… this leads to a problem as i do not want to go out and buy a wireless router, when i have a router in use. i would like to just add a wireless card to my server and configure it to work like a router. but i have been looking all over the internet and all i can find is people having problems with connecting to a wireless connection with a linux box, not seting it up to be a router… bottom line is im looking for some type of documentation on how to set up a wireless router.
thank you for any help or ideas.
One problem is you’ll find that most WNICs are suitable for use only as clients, not APs. I think you’ll find it hard to justify the expense and time, given how cheap wireless routers are now. Some models can even be flashed with embedded Linux.
well i haven’t got a card yet do you have any suggestions for a card thats pci w/ detachable external antenna?
Not really I haven’t wanted to build such a system, but you have to bear in mind the AP requirement, as the capability to be an AP is sometimes mentioned in NIC specs.
