Hi, I am really new to openSUSE, as I just downloaded and installed it yesterday. It is installed on a 128 Gig pen drive.
After booting , a box appears on my desktop stating there is a bug ! After saving the script it generated, I attempted to open
my browser… ( only got a message page not available ). Also I can’t use my printer - that is a network printer. I guess I could use
a little direction.

-=WELCOME=- new poster, but:
-is that all it said “There is a bug!” ???
-you said you are new to openSUSE, does that mean you are also new to
Linux, or do you have other *nix experience?
-when installing it should have asked if you wanted to update the
system…did you?
-and, then it rebooted and did some more stuff and finally it seem
all done and complete…and THEN after that have you rebooted? if
not do that now and then check and see if wireless works (WELL, i am
assuming you are connecting to the net using wi-fi, right?)…anyway
unfortunately the 12.3 install disk were born with a bug that is
easily cleared just by rebooting after the install is complete…
so, do that and then try to make contact via a browser…if you can
then open YaST Online Update and if any more updates are waiting, run
them in also…and let us know how it goes then…

This is jack , just attempted another install, now iam not able to even boot ! All I get is a black screen with no writing on it.and
if i try to repair the script runs for a bit and then requires an id and password. No matter what I type it does’nt ackcept it.

why? i ask because i know there are other (the most famous for
example) operating systems which routinely try to fix all errors by
reinstalling…and, that is because their system is so flaky that
you can do the same thing (install) over and over and get different
results–like suddenly it is all fixed…
did you try to follow my previous advice before you decided to
reinstall?
, now iam not able to even

how do you repair?

when you installed (the first time) did you provide a user name and
password? did you use the same during the second install?
one of those sets should work…but, will log you into a terminal,
not a Graphical User Interface (GUI)…

sorry to hear!

does that mean that you can now get to the internet and this thread
has been successfully solved?
then please your next problem should be to a new forum (applications
maybe) and with a new subject line (because the one here won’t alert
anyone that you now can’t find newly installed editors…
> but i can’t find them anywhere on my menu ??
so, a default install of openSUSE includes several editors…but, i
wonder which two other ones you installed via YaST ??
because not every editor will add an entry to the GUI menu (because
they are not GUI apps)…like, for example joe, vi and mc just to
name three…

‘they’ say that “Linux is Free” but it is not…it cost nothing out
of your pocket but it will cost you some investment in time…which
you will get back in spades once you have learned the basics…
have you yet discovered the good stuff here:

and past that getting started is LOTs more: http://doc.opensuse.org/
> NOT HAPPY !!!
sometimes patience is necessary to find a smile…
one thing to know is:
no one in these forums was born knowing what is needed to be known to
keep smiling when using Linux–so we all understand your pain…
and, i guess the same kind of pain comes to the new user of all the
various operating systems…and, the more you pay (out of your
pocket) the less you have to learn…at least i hear that the Mac OS
is just super (but costly)…

I would like to report if I may, that I have recently purchased a 1 TB hard drive. Partitioned it to 500 gig partitions. Unplugged my C Drive where Windows resides. And proceeded to install open opensuse 12.3 or three. All has gone well, the install was very quick and the update went very well. I plugged my C drive back in and now use easyBDC to go between them. Works great! Just thought I’d post this in case anyone else has run into this duel boot problem.
