bug: "Cannot exec bcdeit.exe" from openSUSE-11.1-DVD-i586.is

I managed to download the openSUSE-11.1-DVD-i586.iso, tried to execute “openSUSE11_1_LOCAL.exe”, and got the following message:

Cannot exec bcdeit.exe

I searched openSUSE bugs database, and found this bug was reported in May, 2008, and was cleared.

You are doing that from inside Windows, right? And if you are doing it from Vista - I strongly advise not to do it; there have been problems with that and Vista. Boot from the DVD instead.

I did run the program in Vista. I just wonder this just a spell mistake: should be “bcdedit.exe” instead of “bcdeit.exe”.

Yes. Use the DVD and boot and install from that. If you want to keep your MBR intact, manage booting from Vista with:Download EasyBCD 1.7.2 - NeoSmart Technologies

No, bcdedit is correct. And you got lucky - probably it did not run because your Vista user does not have adequate privilege, or because of how you have UAC configured. In any case, again, please do NOT start the install from inside Vista this way. And don’t touch bcdedit unless you really know what you are doing.
