I’ve been using Kubunutu/Ubuntu server but I’m playing around with OpenSUSE 11.3 on a server I’ve built up. I’d like to play around with BTRFS. I know it’s not production ready yet, but I’m not using it for anything critical. I’d like to setup a 4 disk BTRFS RAID 5 but I can’t figure out how to do this in the installer. I can set it up in a terminal if I have to but I’d like to use YaST if I can.
This is the hardware I’m working with.
Everex GPC mother board
1.5GHz VIA C7-D
2GB DDR2 RAM @ 533, limited by northbridge, not DRAM
2x 80GB 7200rpm Seagate Baracuda
2x 500GB 7200rpm Seagate Baracuda
2x 1TB 5400 WD Caviar Green
Promise TX4 with 4 SATA Ports
The 80GB Seagates are the system boot drives. I’m setting up 3 MD RAID 1 partitions on them, one for root, swap and /home. root and /home are ext3.
I’m using the 500GB Seagates and an identical amount of capacity on the 1TB WDs for the BTRFS RAID 5. The leftover space on the 1TB WDs is an ext3 data partition on top of MD RAID 1.
