BtrFS on removable drive(s)? (maybe gparted?)

One can also create an fstab entry manually (after getting the UUID with, for instance, blkid). Compression appears to be working on the drives I’ve created this way, and they mount the normal way for luks devices in Dolphin.

Reusing the existing structures works reliably and minimizes the effort to achive a goal. /run/patti/BtrFS-3 is a user dependent path. You may also choose a system path, such as /mnt/BtrFS-3 if more convenient.

Nowadays, my LEAP system seems to like to put random USB disks in** /run/media/username/… ** I know that hasn’t always been the case in Opensuse. I don’t know why I didn’t set up /run/media/… in fstab in my procedure.

Getting the mounted Device under Dolphin’s “Places” panel was the big deal - I didn’t want to accidentally confuse drives when moving data around - that used to happen too often.
