Brother "Print to PC"

Any experts around on getting Brother printers, to do what they are supposed to?
Have 2 Brother printers (MFC-J890DW, MFC-L2730DW - both using USB connections), and have found that in general they work quite well in the Linux environment, but am trying to get a specific function working (for the other half…)
Would like to be able to do Scanning directly to PC, which ‘apparently’ they can do, but I haven’t been able to get the magic working.
They have a utility available, brscan-skey, which runs in the background, and enables various queries, etc, which the printer is supposed to connect to and save files, etc, through an executable - skey-scanimage.
Works to a degree, as in, when scanning from printer, get a message that the file has been saved (~/brscan/), but nothing ever turns up in the directory…
There are other options that work - Scan2email, and scan2cloud, but would like to be able to scan locally…
Brother support are less-than-helpful…
Anyone ever dabbled with this?

Hi
I have an old brother scanner MFC5890CN and it is working on print to file.
After installing the brscan-skey I followed the brother site instruction to run **brscan-skey **
It creates brscan directory in /home/user and send the scan to file there.

Yep, done all of that, and appears to work to the point where it says it’s created the file in brscan, but the printer never scans…
Thanks.

Have you tried stopping brscan-skey and restarting it?

brscanskey -t (to stop)
Then brscan-skey (to start)

I think some brother multifunction ask for the user. Have a look before you scan if the screen of your printer has prompt for the user. If there is you can try the brother site how to for registering user and changing. i don’t have the link but maybe you will find it.

Quoting my own post for a mistake.
It should be brscan-skey -t

Thanks for the replies.
Is working now, but don’t feel confident that it will continue to do so…
Did a full uninstall (including any random directories with brscan/brother in their title), and reinstall, and now working, but can’t understand why, as my install is already relatively recent, with no wierd things thrown in - will see how it goes…
Thanks.

When it stop just run the brscan-skey while your printer is on and it will connect and the scanner will be able to access your machine.
