Being an open Suse 11.1 beginner I need step for step instructions

I have installed the MFC-210 drivers and so on but no luck!!!
Thanks a lot, for any help you can give

You can download the Brother driver(s) here:
http://solutions.brother.com/linux/en_us/
Be sure to get and read the instructions. Once the driver is installed just
go directly into CUPS to finish the install. CUPS is here:
http://localhost:631/
When asked for a username/password use root and root’s password.

Hi PV Red Green,
I think that I’ve found one of the problems, I’ve ben trying to install the printer as a CUPS Printer and have it connected to the USB Port of the PC.
First of all I’ve got to get the right cable to connect the printer to the D-Link box for the Network. Will take a least a weeek or two, then I’ll let you know if it has worked.
Thanks up umtil now.

Just for clarity; even though you plan to use the printer as a network
printer, you should also use the CUPSwrapper driver. To use the scanner, you
need to download and install a separate scanner driver. If you already know
all of this, just disregard my message.

Hello,
after getting the patch cable and trying to install the printer, which did not then even work I’ve found out that my old printer, an Epson Stylus D88 is completely supported by CUPS and I’ve tried to instal this as well.
As soon as I get as far as “Include Printer”
up pops a Window “CUPS ON LOACALHOST” and demands a password with the preset user “ROOT”
and try what I will the ****ed thing will not acept any of the known Passwords that I have up until now used in OpenSuse 11.1
What can you suggest?

Have a read of this thread concerning permissions.

BTW, are you using yast or CUPS interface to configure your printer? (I only ever use the latter).

Hello,
I’m using Cups over http://localhost:631/ !
Is this not so good?

Hi deano_ferrari,
many thanks for the tip using YaST2 as the installer, the Epson Stylus D88 works wonderfull.
At the moment all lights are green, lets just cross or fingers and hope for the best!!!
