Broken login (SDDM unable to mount Plasma 5.21)

[FONT=&amp]Plasma 5.21 was fine until I rebooted. Then I found out that my login was broken. More precisely:

  • I am reaching SDDM, but there is no longer any selector to pick a specific session (Full Wayland, Wayland, X11).
  • SDDM fails to load the plasma workspace. The login screen is just frozen after I’ve input my credentials.
  • Brought up tty, checked journactl, to see a line reading: Invalid session /var/lib/sddm/.desktop
  • Forced by way with startplasma-wayland and this how I was able to post this thread. However, I have 0 plasma widget or panel and only kwin along with krunner seem to be operational.
  • Uninstalled, then reinstalled SSDM. Didn’t change anything.

Any help greatly appreciated. My main wish for now is to be able to completely repair SDDM.

May be time to do some Cache housekeeping – BTW, thanks for the hint.

  • Isolate the “Multi-User Target” systemd state.
  • Clean out the directories under ‘/var/lib/sddm/’ …
  • Restore to the “Default” systemd Target – probably “Graphic” …

Hello and thank you for your reply. In fact before checking in on it I’ve been able to fix my issue by reinstalling sddm, plasma-workspace and plasma-wayland. I hope this hasn’t left behind some corrupted files that risk breaking my system one day.
