Broadcom BCM4312 WiFi Problem when using DHCP

Hi Guys,

I am having a problem while connecting to a D-Link Access Point with Multiple ESSID.

It keeps saying activating but in the end nothing. I am using KnetworkManager & there is no Encryption on the Access Point. I am able to get connected with another machine using windows.

Here is my hardware info:

0c:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY [14e4:4315] (rev 01)
Subsystem: Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card [1028:000c]
Kernel driver in use: b43-pci-bridge

At first i thought it was due to DHCP, because i was able to connect if i assign an IP Address manually.
But i wasn’t able to ping the gateway!

Did you do this already

sudo /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware

Yup already done, infact my wireless is working, i am able to connect on my netgear wireless router at home, it’s just at office i am not able to connect on this access point.
another piece of information, it doesn’t have any mac address filtering enabled.

ESSID at home is 18 Digits long & at office it’s just 16 digits, so i don’t think this can be a problem.

With a response like that, it sounds a little like you have been reading some of the other threads on this subject.

Anyway, I’m not sure what the problem is. Hopefully @lwfinger will see this. (I apologise Larry  As I’m always recommending you)
He our resident wireless and networking guru.

Yes, i have been looking into this kind of threads and apart from that i have been reading lots of threads which sounds interesting (not just wireless but global)

Found a thread will try to follow the instruction (it wouldn’t hurt atleast :D)
Trouble connecting to AP via wireless. openSUSE 11.3
Sounds a bit simillar.

& thanks for looking into it Caf, hopefully @lwfinger will look into soon

actually that did hurt  lost wlan0 :stuck_out_tongue:
anyway got something urgent to do with this lappy so will install winxp for the moment, and later do the dual boot and let u know the update…
Thanks in advance.

When you get back to this thread, try to connect with DHCP and post the output of

/usr/sbin/iwconfig
/sbin/ifconfig
/sbin/route -n
cat /etc/resolv.conf

Hi Folks,
I need your help.
I have a problem also on my Broadcom conection, but different of our friend, my card identify and connect on my router, but doesn’t get IP address.
I tried to assign IP address manually, but this procedure didn’t work.
(see below some details)

I don’t know linux, but right now I am able to change my concepts.
Please, let me know what I can do to fix this issue.

Thanks.

Please start your own thread. Use a thread title that hints at your problem.

When posting command output, place between code tags, as in
(code)
output
(/code)
except use “” and “]” instead of the parentheses that I used in that example.

Also indicate which version of opensuse, and whether you are using NetworkManager or “ifup” (via Yast) to configure your connection.

OK!!!
I used an opened thread to avoid multiples topics about the same issue (despite different solution).
