That video plays just fine here. I tried it with “firefox” and with “opera”. In each case, it played without a problem.
My best guess is that you have not followed the multimedia guide for adding the packman repo and switching packages to packman. Also, you might need the “chromium-ffmpeg-extra” package (from packman).
Previous to my original post,I had tried with Chrome, Firefox, Chromium, Opera, Brave, Newmoon, and a few others. Nothing, nada.
So, what I can infer from what you’ve stated, hcvv, is that it may be a configuration problem on my end.
Is there a direction you can point me to to try and figure this out?
Wrong guess! There’s nothing that has changed recently other than whatever updates have come through the regular lines. Unless there’s been new dependencies added to multimedia, my system has been working properly.
And again, my system has been working properly. I’ve been to the weather network site for almost a decade. It is only now, all of a sudden, that it has stopped working.
Found out what is causing the problem.
VPN
Once I turned off the VPN service, the brightcove player worked properly.
I left netflix because I wasn’t allowed to use a VPN.
Apparently, anything that has anything to do with Brightcove is blocked when using a VPN service (or rather, the other way 'round?).
Guess I won’t be going back to The Weather Network.
It was, in fact, the dns servers I was using. I use PIA’s VPN service, and was using their 2 DNS servers, as well as 1.1.1.1. None of the three were allowing me to use any brightcove player. So, all I do now, if I want to use said player (which is really only once a day when I start my day by reviewing the weather at The Weather Network), I just turn off the VPN for the time that I need it, and turn it back on when I’m done. easy peasy. Weird, though, that it just started doing that.
