Bootloader, why does it keep changing?

Back liek 1 year ago we had grub2, and then came grub bls. Now we get systemd bootloader, which i am told does things better. That’s nice, but why the sudden changes back and forth? Why wasn’t grub bls skipped directly to just systemd?

Good question.
But maybe this should have been on Open chat, it not being a question for technical help.

AFAIK grub2-efi is getting harder to maintain and specifically is waaay too slow with encrypted disks, where systemd-boot is much faster.
You are not alone in questioning the shift to grub-bls, see for instance this thread on the mailing list.
