Booting takes long time

Hii there,
I am new to Suse, just now installed suse11.1 in HP DV laptop which is an amd turion 64X2 processor. The installation went well with out hicups but during the booting time the OpenSUSE logo appears and it dosent boot & the status bar dosent move then i need to press esc key every time i boot in then it detects all the hardware and starts the system.

Is it like the problem with the sata detection...whn i pressed esc key it says sata0 likn down & i get sme messages scrolling....

SUSE rocks but the only problem that annoys me is when i boot up the box that involves me to press an esc key for sucessfull login.

Please help me out from this problem known or unknown........

Thank You Very Much

Ravi…

When you choose at the GRUB menu boot section remove “splash=silent” and tell us if there are any stops.

hi there is no option to remove splash=silent. but one more thing i observed is that if my laptop AC power is off it does this way and if its on the status bar moves…i dont know whats the problem. This was the same when i installed kubuntu “JauntyJackalope” then i shifted to Debian lenny. Can you suggest me to overcome this problem.

Try adding: noapic acpi=off
to the boot argument. You can type this in manually at boot. Pause the time by moving the down arrow then: Select the default boot and just type as above:

noapic acpi=off
then hit enter

Where have you installed SuSE?

Is this on an internal drive or external?

Just a thought:

did you have anything plugged in the USB when you installed or have you
plugged anything in now that was not there before?

IIRC there have been some people who used a USB stick/drive etc when
installing and have removed it and the boot script sorta hangs while looking
for it and then times out and continues.

Also try the acpi hint that caf gave this might be the problem.
