Booting from flash drive or internet

Hello, I recently bought a barebones computer kit and I need an operating system. Upon recommendation, I am considering openSUSE. Further I did not order a disc drive with my computer. This means that to boot openSUSE my only real option would be from a flash drive.

I have found an introduction on how to do it with ubuntu:

Create a Bootable Ubuntu USB Flash Drive the Easy Way - How-To Geek

I am interested to know if I can do a similar thing with openSUSE. Help is greatly appreciated on this matter.

Hi,

Welcome to openSUSE.

Here it is : SDB:Live USB stick - openSUSE

Thank you very much

This puzzled penguin is now far less puzzled

It’s been a pleasure and fairly easy in fact.

Don’t hesitate if you have other questions.

I have a question about this; how do I make more than one live operating system in usb. I mean like;

when I choose boot from usb, ı will access grub with operating systems inside the usb, and I will chose one.

And I have also another question.

I have whole copy (un iso’ed) install cd on my hard drive (/dev/sda4) how do I add it to grub.

Edit: there is only openSuse install files in sda4

Hi yasar11732,

I suggest you start 2 new threads, for each of you’re question. You’ll get more attention and more help this way.

Multiple boot from usb (how to do it if possible at all)
Addin openSUSE iso extracted to hard drive to Grub

You can follow the threads form that links

That’s what I did.

Thanks.

I have a further question, can I do this same procedure with the 4.7 GB DVD download or does it have to be a LiveCD GNOME/KDE

Nope. You can only do it with the liveCD. :\

I am assuming I could then use the flash boot to fully install openSUSE on my new, operating systemless PC? Or is this an incorrect assumption?

That is correct.
