Booting from Compact Flash

Hi!

I currently have OpenSuse 11.1 installed on a x86 PC having both a DVD and hard drive.

I would like to copy and/or install OpenSuse on to a Compact Flash. The computer is equipped with an IDE compact flash as the secondary master.

I have tried installing version 11.1 directly from the DVD to the CF drive (with the primary hard drive disconnected) with out success. Even though it appears to install, the system does not boot from the secondary master - even with bios pointing to the secondary master as the boot device.

Is there a simple way to copy the system from the primary ide hard drive to the compact flash?

I have managed to partittion the CF into sdb1 and sdb2 and formatted as follows:

mkdosfs -F12 /dev/sdb1 note size is 250MB
mkfs.ext3 /dev/sdb2 note size is 3.8GB

Any help would be most appreciated. A pointer to a book or a website would do.

I wonder if this will do it?

I did once upon a time manage to install SUSE onto an SDHC card using these instructions - no idea if any of that helps…
