booting error - kindly help

Hi,

Would you kindly help? I’m a new OpenSuse user.

I copied a libc.so.6 in a new computer (linuxbox2) from an old computer (linuxbox1).

I got error message:
/bin/sh: error while loading shared libraries: /lib/libc.so.6: file too short

INIT: Id “6” respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes

I tried booting from the installation CD but when I hit ‘del’ or ‘F12’, the computer does not boot from the cd.

Kindly help!

Thanks.

Congratulations, you have managed to disable a key part of the system. libc is needed by pretty much every program on the system.

You have to boot to the rescue system, then manually install the package glibc. This involves use of the command line. If you don’t feel up to it, and you didn’t get very far customising your system, perhaps you should just reinstall openSUSE.

However booting from the CD should not be affected. That is a BIOS issue, as openSUSE isn’t even loaded yet.
