Boot to a blank screen after unplugging 2nd monitor

Hello all.

Recently I have observed strange behavior with my XFCE installation.
I have a laptop and a 2nd monitor plugged in.
Whenever I reboot/turn off my computer and meanwhile (or afterwards) I unplug HDMI, when I boot up again my system doesn’t register any display devices. Then I can only access the terminal with Ctrl + Alt + F3. xrandr shows No displays found(paraphrasing).
Fortunately when I replug everything is back to normal. When I first unplug then reboot openSUSE acts normally. But this is getting annoying.
Today I was in a hurry so I messed up ordering and got the same bug outside home.
Are there any terminal commands I can do that could fix my display problem?

sudo systemctl restart xdm ought to work each time, but to get a real fix may require you report a bug on Bugzilla. What GPU(s) is/are in that laptop? inxi -GSaz from an X terminal pasted here using PREformatted text button above window here would nicely answer.
