Boot stops at "Loading intial ramdisk"

I just tried a clean reinstall with the latest snapshot openSUSE-Tumbleweed-DVD-x86_64-Snapshot20160714-Media.iso. I’ve wiped my partitions and started from scratch.

The installer boot screen only continues if I add “nosplash” to the kernel command line.

After the installation has finished (succesfully by the looks of it) , it doesn’t want to boot, but hangs on “Loading initial ramdisk…”
I can get a little further if I choose the fail safe option. Then it continues upto the “Started Locale server”, then it hangs for about 10- minutes and then continues and presents the KDE login screen. The screen becomes frozen at the first key touch and I need to power cycle the laptop.

My laptop is a modern Toshiba Portégé, with Intel Core i5 + integrated Intel i915.

Mind you, I never had problems with the 4.6.1 kernel (I don’t remember which snapshot that was)

Any pointers appreciated!

“The installer boot screen only continues if I add “nosplash” to the kernel command line” is wrong.

This must read:

"The installer boot screen only continues if I choose the “Safe Settings” kernel with F5.
