Boot stopped after Postifx Mail starts

Have read some posts that mention boot problems with 12.2 RC2 but not sure if this is actually the same thing or not.

Yesterday I have trying to install private amd drivers for my radeon 6770M with no success and today the system boot stops just after a mail transport agent started.

Is this related to the driver installation or what? Before re-installing it would important to know if this is a OS bug or not.

Thanks in advance!

As 12.2 is NOT a supported release, this will be moved to Pre-release/Beta.

Please do not post until the move is complete!

My fault!!! It ii to hot here :frowning: I applogize. And this is open again.

(I hope my silly action will see more people to study the problem here.)

Don’t worry it’s ok!

Any idea how to resolve this? I mean if I have to install it again I would but if someone know another way I’d try it!

earlier you noted: “Before re-installing it would important to know if
this is a OS bug or not.”

which is research you can do, here:

any login you encounter should accept the same userID/Pass you use
here…oh, be a little careful as i see that list contains bugs for both
12.2 and 12.3 (which is not a good thing!)

however, i kinda believe you damaged your system somehow when trying to
install the video drivers…

tell me, did the system boot ok before you did that? if yes, and if you
don’t know how to undo everything you did trying to install a driver,
then i’d guess the best way forward is to format and reinstall (i didn’t
mention backup first since i assume you are TESTING in a sandbox, with
none of your photos, music, video, mails, etc etc etc or other data at
risk of loss)

if you again try to install a video driver, i’d start by looking here:

BUT, i do not think it is yet updated for the still pre-release 12.2, so
if the machine runs ok with the default driver i think i’d let it
alone…but, ymmv!

Sorry for the stupid question, but what is a private amd driver?

PC: oS 12.2 x86_64 | i7-2600@3.40GHz | 16GB | KDE 4.8.4 | GeForce GT 420
ThinkPad E320: oS 12.1 x86_64 | i3@2.30GHz | 8GB | KDE 4.8.5 | HD 3000
eCAFE 800: oS 12.1 i586 | AMD Geode LX 800@500MHz | 512MB | KDE 3.5.10

i guessed that “private” is a close to ‘correct’ translation from some
unspecified non-english lingo’s version of “proprietary”…

private = closed to the public = proprietary
open = available to all, ad libitum

Sorry, my mistake! As someone said the correct word is “closed” drivers (or proprietary).

Haven’t found anything related to this problem. At least not exactly.

Yes, before the driver installation system was booting well. However all I read about problems with them on 12.2 were known issues but no one related to system boot.

I’ll try another way to boot, if can’t, a re-installation wouldn’t hurt that much.

Thanks!

I almost forgot to post that my openSUSE 12.2 RC2 boot again just after uninstalling the amd proprietary drivers. I have to try again with the latest 12.8.
