Just a quickie,
Is there a way to boot opensuse v11.1 from a CD ? or can it only be booted from the HDD after installation ?

When you say you want to boot from cd, do you mean you want to install to cd and run from cd or do you mean you have installed to hdd and want to use the cd as a boot manger?
There are Live-CDs available. That way you can boot from CD and run openSUSE to try. They also have an icon to start the installation.
