Boot Problem?

Hi,

I just recently installed my openSUSE 11.0 on top my WinXP (in my laptop). After I have successfully installed, I got 4 options in my GRUB loader, which is opensuse, failsafe, windows1, and windows2. The questions I want to ask are:

  1. Is it ok to have 4 options like? I thought I should have only 2 options, which is opensuse and winxp only?
  2. What do failsafe and windows2 mean as I did not have the courage to choose it? I have tried opensuse and windows1 though (it boots into XP ofc).
  3. Can I choose to only have 2 options in GRUB loader? Is it safe to do so?

Thanks.

  1. failsafe will boot your opensuse partition in such away to minimize failures. It does this by only allowing a core set of drivers/modules to be loaded in the kernel. This is helpful if you botch up the configuration of a device or if there are hardware issues that are making the boot fail.

As far as the Windows2 option goes, I would guess that it may be a recovery partition. Some laptop manufacturers will create a small partition that you can boot into to do recover/rescue tasks with xp. I would go ahead and try and boot to all them to see what they’re like. It will not hurt anything!

good luck

If you did not solve the problem startup yast and edit you,re boot
loader to find out where the Windows option lead to.
I get it ones too in my case one goes to Windows option and the other to my second windows with only contain data
