boot problem OpenSuse 10.3 & Vista - Notebook Dell 1420

Hi all friends…
I have a dell notebook with vista home premium
the last weekend I try to test an OpenSuse 10.3 distro
when I start to install process… the light go off
and let me at middle road, in the process of install OpenSuse… then, when the light back again, the notebook re-start and give me the option to run Windows or OpenSuse, I try to start Windows Vista, but the bootloader process (Grub-Yast) “skip” the MBR (Vista) and start the OpenSuse process, I can’t recover the access to Vista

I need to know…if there any method to recover Vista MBR? to let me access to Vista? I need to re-write the grub-yast file config at anyway to let me access to vista? I need to install OpenSuse at all?
theres so many partitions in the notebook dell hard drive
some of them are hidden others not!

I’m in troubles! I don`t have a lot of experience with this kind of problem! plis! help me! many thanks!

Well, I think this summer we will see a lot of power outages around here :-).
Anyway, look at this link:
How to use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment to troubleshoot and repair startup issues in Windows Vista

@Mike_Ar -

You tried to install openSUSE from within Vista, loading the CD or DVD in Vista and clicking on the install icon, right?

In the Microsoft article linked above, it is best to use Option 2; that will recover your Vista booting. You need to have the Vista RE (Recovery Environment) for this, you boot from it, go into the command line shell, and type the commands. You probably do not have a Vista RE from Dell, but only a recovery tool that completely reinstalls the OS fresh as it left the factory. But you can download the RE as an iso and burn it to CD. It is here: vista-recovery-disc-download/. The download uses a bittorent.

After you have restored your Vista boot loader, the best way to get openSUSE to boot is to use the EasyBCD tool from the same website; it is very good, simple, and very popular. It’s here: Download EasyBCD 1.7.2. Read the online tutorial first. You will probably need to do one task with the openSUSE DVD before using EasyBCD. So after you have got your Vista boot recovered and have installed EasyBCD, post back and we’ll give you the additional instructions for how to set it all up.
