Boot/Login loop back

Hi

We have recently installed Suse 11 Enterprise Edition for the purpose of running an IBM Tivoli Maximo Asset Management programme from it, it’s within a vmware environment (version 2.5.0) and has a fixed ip address. We have no previous experience with any Linux products but wanted to experiment with this as a potential way to reduce costs, we managed to get the IBM product installed when logged in as Root as IBM’s instructions told us it would only work if it was installed from from the Root level & despite our reservations after reading posts on here we did do this. Everything seemed ok for a couple of weeks but last week we had to update the Maximo software which resulted in us having to restart the Linux box & that’s when our problems started. We get as far as the login page but every time we enter the credentials now the Gui page just seems to get stuck in a loop constantly taking us back to the same point, we’ve seen from other posts that it appears to be some kind of problem with the graphics but having tried numerous fixes off other posts we are still stuck in this loop & are stuck at what to do next.

you have accidentally landed in the openSUSE forums…the Enterprise
forums are at http://forums.suse.com/ where you will find the same
ID/Pass used here works there also…

(the two systems are different enough that you really need the SUSE
side involved…really! by the way, installing as root is the most
common way to install anything…but don’t do it by logging into the
GUI as root, instead log in as a simple user and use YaST or a
terminal (running as root) to do the install…)

Oops sorry thanks

Thread closed since it’s SUSE related…
