Boot is out of space

Hello everyone. I’m new to OpenSuse. I just install Opensuse and I was doing an updrade and this pop-up: /boot is out of space. Do I have to increase my /boot disc? or do I have to wait for the upgrade.

I can explain why “/boot” is full. But I cannot decide what you should do about it. That will be up to you.

12.3 has multi-kernel support. When you install a new kernel, the most recent previous kernel is kept. In your case, since you are upgrading, the kernel in use before the upgrade will be kept.

The plymouth graphic boot splash in 12.3 takes a lot of space in the “initrd” file.

With those two factors together, your “/boot” is not quite large enough for two kernels.

The options are: turn off multi-version kernels support, or remove “plymouth”. My personal choice was to remove “plymouth”. However, I’ll probably change my partitioning when I go to 13.1, to allow a larger “/boot”.

Thanks nrickert!

Thanks for the help! I decided to reinstall opensuse with a larger /boot.
