Boot impossible

Such a good morning,
I inserted some packages yesterday as mozilla, java and ATI drivers. I have an agp radeon video card.
But since the update were finished, the system cant boot anymore.
The screen gets black and that’s it.
The boot selection has also been completed by a new linux boot, normal and failsafe.
But no one is working (old or new, normal nor failsafe).
I tryed to boot from the installation DVD and repair the sytem but a boot from HD is still not working.
Once I came back to run windows, the configuration of display were changed (size and colours) but as you can read me, I got it working again.
Can anybody help to run my suse again ?
Many thanks in advance

At least one failsafe boot option should work :frowning:

Actually I’d reinstall the system. Saves time.

Hello,
After running an “update installation” and having canceled the ATI package, the system is running again.
Many thanks

What do you advice to do with the video card drivers ?

How did you do that? From the original install media?

First of all, you don’t need the ATI drivers for X. You may need it if you want the desktop effects.
Determine which card you have exactly and see if the current ATI driver supports it. Check

Hi again,
With the installation DVD. I tried already to repair unsucessfully.
I tried then to use “installation” menu and “Update system”.
Every repository was there switchable, skip AVI, ran the update and it worked. Have I been lucky ?
Ok for the driver, so long I don’t meet problem, I’ll use it so.
Many thanks anyway
bye

Good to see it works that way. I assume it has downgraded a lot of packages rather than upgrading them, though
