Hey team,
Tumbleweed in stalling at loading initial ramdisk or shortly after and black screening. It occurred after updating the system and having to do a hard reboot after the system wouldn’t shutdown.
I tried older kernals and rescue mode but nothing will load. I also used a tw liveboot to perform a system upgrade but it didn’t fix it.
I have files I need to recover, either by fixing the system or access the home folder (which I tried accessing through a USB live boot with both Linux mint and later fedora, but even after mounting the drive I can’t see my home files). Does it have something to do with the btrfs file system, I’ve come from Debian based version and haven’t had an issue accessing via live boot before once mounted. Can someone help please?
I’ve searched online but am yet to find a solution
Do you not have a:
“Start from a read only snapshot”
option at the Grub boot menu?? If yes, how far back did you choose?
I would rather use the TW Live USB to mount and attempt recovery, versus doing a “system upgrade”.
So, what’s shown when stalling at boot?
Since doing the live boot upgrade it black screens after the loading initial ramdisk screen. Prior to that it got stuck at the loading initial ramdisk screen.
I have tried mounting the internal drive while live booting and it pops up in the GUI files app but with no personal files. I have also tried doing it via terminal but also can’t view any files. It will often give a dmesg error.
I have now managed to get one of the rollback read only images to load. It is the oldest one I have which is from two weeks ago (see photo). I am yet to work out how to restore the rollback and what to do next (if that’s the right option?). I copied the files i needed to an external drive when this rollback loaded.
Do you have any suggestions of what steps to take next to return it to a functional operating system please? Any ideas on what caused it so I can take take prevent it from occurring again?
Thanks for your assistance
