Boot error after installing VirtualBox

Hi, I have installed VirtualBox (not only binaries from the website, but also the other packages, installed from YaST), after installing it, at boot, appears other three boot options, concerning a new version of kernel that, in this moment, I can’t remember. Anyway, every boot choice I take, appears this:

What can I do?

Virtual Box does not affect the boot of your machine.

You could do with telling us what else was installed. ie; differnet kernel?

The more info the better.

Well, I’ve installed VirtualBox the first time only from the website… so, I’ve installed the RPM package first. When I’ve started VirtualBox the first time, it appears an error that I can’t remember well, but it was something about a missing module to run any virtualmachines. So, I red on the internet how to resolve this problem, and I found a solution: installing also the other packages of virtual box from Yast. I’ve installed it, and at the next boot, it appeared that monster in the first post… I can’t either run my openSuse, also the “Failsafe” doesn’t work. I remember that the ONLY thing I’ve installed that day on openSuse was VirtualBox.

up, I’m not yet able to resolve this problem T_T

This has nothing to do with VirtualBox. It’s the kernel not finding a disk partition it was looking for. If there is nothing wrong with your hardware then try repairing your system using the Repair option from the install CD/DVD. Is there anything special about your setup, do you have Linux on an external USB drive or something like that?

Actually as sais earlier there’s something else other than the virtaulBox but just for advice try to use the sun’s virtual machine which you can get it from the sun’s website. Uninstall the virtualBox OSE and leave only the VirtualBox.rpm package

No, I have installed openSUSE on the master hard drive (internal).

I can’t uninstall it… the system doesn’t run… Have I had to remove it from bash that appear after the error? It’s possible?

Just repair your system first and don’t worry about VirtualBox for now. I think you may have some hardware problem with the disk so VB got blamed.

as other said, forget virtual box for now, use the dvd and repeair the system. It can’t find the exact maxtor drive / partition anymore, only times I seen that was either /etc/fstab has been changed or you copied your hdd to a new hdd (which has a new name/id)

I use virtualbox also and have had issues booting into suse afterwords.

I properly installed virtual box by using yast because it suggests more then one package that makes required changes to the kernal.

You notice this in grub with different bootup options after the install.

I’m pretty sure it does affect the boot of your machine because you have to load the modified kernal for virtual box. In hind sight, say I didn’t install all the required packages from yast I could easily see my computer being messed up at boot time.

Funny thing is from your screen shot I dont see the bootloader at all so my experience might be unrelated.

The only thing that happens is that virtual box is compiled to your current kernel.

It does not change anything in the boot/grub/menu.lst

start up using your dvd or #1cd then go to rescue system. You will be at the shell use mount to see what is mounted. If anything is mounted besides the virtual rescue system then umount it. After that run fsck on your disk. If it is repairable this will do it. Else NOT really YUP you really have tooooo.
