Since update this morning that included the various kernel modules which required a reboot, boinc manager does not run. I tried starting it from a desktop launcher after the reboot. I also tried to start it from a terminal. It threw no errors but did not start. I uninstalled and reinstalled boinc-manager stilll does not run.
Yast services manager says boinc client is active (running). Client appears to be running from a view of system resources app as there is activity on 6 cpus dedicated to it.
I don’t see any boinc eliments in the update of today.
I may try uninstall/reinstall of client if I get no other suggestions. I think boinc manager shuts down client but I don’t think boinc-client can stop manager from running so I don’t think boinc-client is the cause. But might be worth a try.
Anyone see same thing or have any ideas??
thanks, tom kosvic

Hi
Check the service file listed in the output from systemctl status <service>
has the hardening been added? If so, copy to /etc/systemd/system and edit out the relevant hardening options and see if it starts up.
I don’t understand the request. My interpretation is shown below. But the manager is a different app from the client service. See if this helps:
(base) tom@mydesktop:~> sudo systemctl status boinc-client

I don’t know what the service file is nor what is meant by hardening.
thanks for the help, tom kosvic

Perhaps there is an answer here. To reiterate, I only did this morning update and made no mods to boinc-manager.
thanks, tom kosvic
Hi
Ahh, ok so client looks all ok then. So your running boincmgr
from the command line?
Hi
Nothing appears changed in the boinc packages in a number of years…
Error 98 means the port is already in use by another service…
lsof -i:31416
I got boinc started again after a reboot. Before reboot, I went and tried to change the port in use from 31416 to 31417 as seen on another thread. I stopped/started client then manager. I tried changing port to 31417. Nothing worked.
Also before reboot, I deleted boinc-client, boinc-manager, and libboinc and then reinstalled.
I then did a reboot and when system came up boinc was running properly. Nothing I tried did anything. Also, I had rebooted once before.
I could not tell someone who is having same problem a means to fix it but it is running.
thanks all, tom kosvic

boinc has been running for me, but it is not crunching any data. I request data from 4 projects. None of them are computing. Did you see this in your case?
Boinc client appeared to keep running. System Monitor showed 6 cpus active that are assigned to boinc active. It was only the boinc manager that would not start.
Again, it is fixed but I am not sure how or why.
