Bluetooth not working on Tumbleweed

Hi all,

I’m running Tumbleweed with KDE Plasma 5 and Bluetooth is not working: it shows as disabled in Plasma Settings and pressing “Enable” button does nothing. I cannot find Bluetooth speakers either. My motherboard is MSI X570 Unify. The output of sudo systemctl enable --now bluetooth shows that it is enabled/active:

● bluetooth.service - Bluetooth service
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/bluetooth.service; enabled; preset: disabled)

Any idea what could be causing it? I vaguely remember that it worked couple of years ago when I was on Ubuntu.

Hi and welcome back :slightly_smiling_face:

Could you share the journal logs for the BT service:

sudo journalctl -b --no-pager -u bluetooth.service

Hi, thanks!

Here’s the output:

For what it’s worth the /etc/bluetooth/main.conf is also missing.

Could you try (re-)installing and restarting BT service:

sudo zypper in --force bluez bluez-auto-enable-devices

Did that, bluez-auto-enable-devices was missing before and got installed, but after rebooting I still cannot enable Bluetooth in Plasma settings.

Check if BT is enabled in the BIOS and the outputs of the following:

bluetoothctl list
bluetoothctl devices
bluetoothctl show

Those initially gave no outputs so it was indeed a missing device issue. There is no option in BIOS to enable/disable Bluetooth (it’s always enabled).

SOLUTION: After googling many people had this issue on MSI X570 motherboards. The solution is to unplug PC from mains for a minute or so and switch the PC back on. That fixed it! Nothing to do with Linux. Thanks so much for the help
