Bluetooth was working in KDE 4.1 in openSUSE 11.0 with no problems. I install openSUSE 11.1 and now the bluetooth icon that should show up in the system tray no longer shows up. If I hit Ctrl + Esc I can see kbluetooth4 in “System Activity”. All that’s changed is I did a fresh install (I don’t do upgrades) of openSUSE 11.1 with the same KDE I was running in 11.0. I would like to know what’s broke even if I can’t fix it. I hate not knowing why something isn’t doing what it’s suppose to be doing.

I am configuring an ASUS eee-PC 1000h with a built-in Broadcom bluetooth device.
hciconfig tells me that everythhing is fine except for any KDE4 application not starting. They either don’t start at all or crash right after.
When I issue the command
rfcomm connect rfcomm0
I will be asked to type my PIN into the cell phone, but there is no way to change my PIN in the notebook.
How can I continue?

I have found the exact same thing here, 11.0 bluetooth worked fine but did not in 11.1RC1 and now still does not in 11.1.
Have noticed some error messages in log files but nothing spring out yet.
not sure yet why but will see what I can find over the weekend ( not much time at the mo, shopping with SWMBO yada yada ) 
just to let you know are not alone.

Same problem here with a Lenovo 3000 N200: bluetooth was working with 11.0. After update to 11.1 bluetooth doesn’t work anymore. Because I’m a (Linux unexperienced) user only I have no idea what could I do. Any hints?

I’m not interested in messing with my current configuration. Aside from enabling the Packman and Update repo I want to try to keep everything as close to the original DVD as possible. So if any of you want to try this and see if it helps, let me know. Try adding these KDE 4.1 repos and updating your packages and tell me if that fixes any thing.

Same problem here. I have a BT Targus mouse that has been working flawlessly under several versions of openSUSE, but no more. The upgrade to 11.1 apparently messed up kbluetooth.

eg;

OK, I gave it a shot. Installed those repos and fired up a
zypper up
…however, what shall I say? Nada. Zip. Same crap. Bluetooth keeps crashing.
In my case KDE4 and KDE3 are installed on my Lenovo. Bluetooth worked in v11.0 with both. However I work with KDE3 because it’s better than KDE4 (for me).
Just the same situation.
SuSE11.1 on Acer 7720Z laptop.
“kbluetooth4” starts, but “kbluetooth4-devicemanager” fails with error:
process 10034: arguments to dbus_message_new_method_call() were incorrect, assertion “path != NULL” failed in file dbus-message.c line 1070.
While using 11.1RC1 in KDE3.5 with kbluetooth and downgraded bluez drivers (to 3.x version… something like 3.36) it was all ok.
I’m having the same problem! I had to go back to 11.0 until this gets figured out. Just out of curiosity, are you using the 32-bit or 64-bit version of 11.1? I tried using the 64-bit live cd to reinstall 11.0 and ran into similar problems (I had been using 32-bit 11.0 previously, with no problems). Just wondering if there is something going on there.

I’ve just installed opensuse 11.1 64bit on my dell precision M65, kbluetooth says “no bluetooth adapter”
I hope this problem will be fixed soon…

Hi there. I’m a new Suse user. I am running KDE 3.5 on Suse 11.1. I had tested 11.0 and noticed these problems with Bluetooth.
Being a new user, I spend quite some time browsing the repositories and installing new things. In that spirit, I installed everything I could find that was related to Bluetooth. There were indeed Bluetooth-related packages that were not installed yet. After that, Bluetooth now works. I think.
I had never seen Bluetooth work on Linux before so I only have Windows to compare. I find Bluetooth on Suse 11.1 awkward and a little inconvenient, but maybe it’s just my phone that doesn’t behave very well. I still need to test it with another phone and a Palm PDA that I have here. Also I have no idea how to use a Bluetooth headset to listen to music or talk on Skype. There is no such control or configuration is sight. But I think I can say that it works since I successfully paired at least one of my phones.

Are the bluez items installed, if your using KDE is pinentry-qt
installed. The other one is to check via lsmod that the bt modules are
loaded.

Same here, I have a Asus M50VM-A008c with OpenSuSE 11.1 64 bit and it worked before with not problems in Opensuse 11.0, 10.3.
(This laptop does have a buildt-in bluetooth but it is not supported yet on this Linux kernel version …)
Also the BT usb is a Asus Wl-btd202, wich is compatible and recognized by lsusb.
Also hciconfig does note the usb dongle as it does say there is no problem.
Both KDE3 and KDE say when the usb is connected :
“no bluetooth adapter”

You may want to check out comment #29 in this bugzilla report . Following these advices fixed my BT mouse in openSUSE 11.1 (KDE4). It has been running perfectly for the last day now. You will have to install some Gnome packages but I think that is a fair deal until the problem in KDE 4.1 is fixed.
