Blog of helios

Nice people out there - better watch out if you have any Linux stickers on your car.

Well I can see their 6 month projection theory. I know I can find something
wrong on almost any computer 6 months old. I don’t see why Linux would
hurt that business model. In fact, I’d wager a lot of these ‘netbooks’ are
going to suffer from log files of gargantuan proportions…unless someone
has disabled logging on these platforms. Not many users know what ‘general
maintenance’ is going to be required on a Linux box. I see a whole new
market opportunity.

Probably because they don’t train their technicians on Linux…

Jim

I just logged in and firefox popped up a window about recording what I’m doing and vanished, back now.Out of work soul watching? Suse have bumper stickers, could make one from that logo. Chrysantine is that really you, like jazz?

Err what? The blog?

No it’s not mine - it’s just something I found from a Digg link earlier and thought it was rather strange.

We schedule a technician visit for six months in the future with every home visit. Both they and we know their registries and computers will be messed up again by then."

I knew Windows was bad,but I didn’t think it was that bad! It makes me wonder if Geek Squad here in the US runs like that?

Chrysantine,
Are there any businesses like that in the EU?
Also I think oilpaint was talking about your avatar. It’s your best so far.

I think most of the retail here operates on the “sell the machine, give X month free software repair warranty” nowadays - usually the bigger stores sell some sort of small maintenance package alongside the computer so you can just drop it off at the store and they’ll fix it for you in case something (software wise) breaks.

Hmm, just like Best Buy here then. However after reading that I guess it could happen in the EU too. I just hope they’re a little more civil about it there.

You have nutcases in every country - stupidity knows no borders.

So true however the US does seem to have a disproportionate amount of them.

I would disagree and can think of many other countries around the world
that are much worse and more abundant. Not sure how you came to this
conclusion.
