I’m new switching from Kubuntu to OpenSuSE, and I’m still trying to get the hang of using YaST. I had to reinstall my system (no biggie, I hadn’t done much to it yet) after I accidentally upgraded to the new KDE 4.4, and wanted to downgrade…the downgrade didn’t take so well, and Plasma kept crashing, so I just formatted and reinstalled. This time I’d like to know in advance before I go through and install updates, what is the package that installs 4.4 called in the repository, and how can I block it? I quite like KDE 4.3, and I don’t want to upgrade just yet - can I simplify blocking it permanently off the bat before I even go through and install my updates? YaST seems really intuitive and easy to use, but there’s still a learning curve, and I need to get the hang of it first. Thanks.
It is suggested that you only keep the four original repositories, added for you during the openSUSE installation and perhaps packman enabled. Add other repositories when you are trying to upgrade something, like your KDE version. I suggest you search the forums for such advice, like upgrading KDE, before you decide to do that. Disable any repositories you have added, except for the four original ones added for you, after you have gotten the updates that you wanted.
Thank You,
I assume that in your post when you are talking about YaST, you mean the Software Management part of YaST only.
I do not understand how you “accidentallly” can update to KDE 4.4. It needs adding of a repository and switching to that repository. Do not add the repo and KDE 4.4 will not be installed.
