I have put into my machine a graphic card GetForce 9300GE - expecting better results than onboard graphic.
Through YaST I have installed driver from NVIDIA repo - nidia-gfxG02-kmp-desktop.
Then in GRUB I added nomodeset.
Restarted computer.
Every 20-30 seconds monitor blinks - i goes off for a second or two.
Also, occasionally there are vertical lines, something like vertical snow.
How to fix it?
PS. I also added nvidia-computeG02 and x11-video-nvidiaG02.
The same results.
You could try generating a working xorg.conf file with nvidia-xconfig utility.
ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/1.0-8776/README/chapter-03.html#id299839
Boot up into runlevel 3, by entering ‘3’ at the grub menu prompt, then press [Enter]. Login, and run nvidia-xconfig with root credentials. You should be able to force a safe 1024x768’ (or similar) resolution, that your monitor can handle. When done, change back to runlevel 5 with
init 5
Do you get a working desktop now? It should be possible to get a higher resolution with the graphical ‘nvidia-settings’ utility.
kdesu nvidia-settings
It got worse. I lost working desktop. Whole morning spent on fighting with computer.
Finally I removed that graphic card and restored old settings.
Maybe one day I will able to get it working…
