While installing OpenSUSE 11.2 on system with videocard with VGA/DVI outs in most cases work only DVI out. VGA out not work. Need choise what VGA or DVI out must work while installing the system.
I tried to create future request, but a have trouble with that again
With openSUSE-11.2, I have (on different occasions) both VGA and DVI output working on 2 different PCs:
I started with VGA output (graphic cards: nVidia GeForce-5200 and nVidia GeForce 8400GS). This was with both “nv” and “nvidia” drivers.
I then purchased a monitor and KVM switch that worked with DVI and changed from using the VGA output to the DVI output, and that also works. Tested with both “nv” and “nvidia” drivers.
Are you certain this is not a hardware problem?
Did you tune your xorg.conf file (with sax2) after changing from VGA to DVI (and back) ?
I found messages from others users with the same problem. Maybe this problem in hardware too, but why not to do a switch between VGA and DVI for these users who have trouble with that?
Are you switching off all power, and changing cables during this switch?
As noted, I switched a number of times with 2 different cards (3 cards if you count my using a DVI-to-VGA converter on a 3rd card) and I had no problems. I don’t want to say it “just worked” because that irritates MattBClassic and I’ll be accused of a bad attitude (but I can’t help but wonder if I am doing something different that makes my “just work” efforts a success … )
Maybe you are using a different graphic driver (or a different version of a driver) in Debian and Ubuntu. What graphic driver are you using in OpenSUSE, Fedora, Knoppix, Ubuntu and Debian ?
In all cases Driver is radeon (by the xorg.conf) what version - i do not rmember, but
What to do with that?
