Hi,
I try to install Tumbleweed 64 bit on a Acer Veriton M4640G. Booting from DVD->Install shows “Starting udev” for about 2 minutes, after some time a black screen with a movable mouse pointer shows up, nothing more happens.
Ctrl+Alt+F3 shows approximately:
"

loading file:/var/adm/mount/media.1/info.txt → /info.txt

Pressing Ctrl+Alt+Backspace in Ctrl+Alt+F7 screen shows
>>> linuxrc 5.0.92 (Kernel 4.8.13-1-default) <<<
and a red error message window “An error occured during the installation”.
DVD mediacheck reports “OK”.
What could be wrong?
Exactly how did you create the DVD? What method did you use to burn it?
In openSUSE 13.2 32 bit I downloaded “openSUSE-Tumbleweed-DVD-x86_64-Snapshot20161226-Media.iso” from “https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Tumbleweed_installation” and burned the DVD with
"

"
by selecting the *.iso file by left click, inserting the DVD and clicking ‘Start’ in the ‘Burn Image’ dialog.
I don’t know if it might be related, but just FYI your Tumbleweed-DVD-x86_64-Snapshot20161226 includes the 4.9.0 kernel that is giving headaches elsewhere. Check this for instance: https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/522073-Boot-issues-with-Tumbleweed-and-Kernel-4-9-(booting-stops-at-Loading-initial-ramdisk-kernel-4-9-doe
Maybe the 4.9 kernel just doesn’t boot on your HW…
Is it possible to download older snapshot ISO’s with an older
“known to be good” version?
Maybe the 4.9 kernel just doesn’t boot on your HW…
I assume kernel booting is OK because the last log line is
"
starting stctsid showconsole
inst_setup yast
"
No, but you might wait for a fixed version in a matter of days…

linux since 1994
S.u.S.E./openSUSE since 1996
Are the error messages
url mount: cd:/?device=disk/by-id/ata-HL-DT-ST_DVDRAM_GHD0N_K2QG7MC1221 @ /var/adm/mount
repository: using cd:/?device=disk/by-id/ata-HL-DT-ST_DVDRAM_GHD0N_K2QG7MC1221 @ /var/adm/mount
loading file:/var/adm/mount/media.1/info.txt -> /info.txt
error 37: Couldn't open file /var/adm/mount/media.1/info.txt
...
error 37: Couldn't open file /var/adm/mount/part/info
...
error 37: Couldn't open file /var/adm/mount/autoinstall.xml
...
normal?
But the log shows:
>>> linuxrc 5.0.92 (Kernel 4.8.13-1-default) <<<
?
