Black screen with cursor hyphen top left corner with nvidia drivers

I have been having a lot of trouble with nvidia drivers on tumbleweed.

With the suggested way, via the non free I have a lot of flickering and typing issues with Wayland KDE.

With nvidia drivers from their website I am unable to get a Wayland session. The screen comes up black with a hyphen in the top left corner. I was trying it yesterday with the stable driver and I was getting same thing but instead of hyphen I got a large white outline cursor and that’s it.

On Ubuntu with 550 arch drivers I have an extremely stable Wayland experience with only kde 5.

This is a fresh install which I have done a few times in the last few days to find a solution.

I have blacklisted the nouveu drivers and turned on drm and set nomodeset kernel module settings. I have tried the stable 550 from nvidia website as well as the beta 560.

Using the recommended method of adding the nvidia repo and installing 555 that way leaves me with a functioning Wayland session but the flickering and typing issues make it completely unusable.

As far as I can see in my limited testing x11 is working fine with both methods. Seeing as I had almost all my problems resolved under Ubuntu 24 with Wayland and only 550 drivers I am trying to get a similar experience but with kde6 instead of kde5 which as I understand it has even more patches for explicit sync and should be even better.
