-during installation, i have a black screen IF i don’t choose the F3 video mode nomodeset (or nokms) option
-after installation (with the nomodeset (or nokms) option), i only have 1024*768 resolution (and no other choice !)
somebody told me it’s because of the nomodeset (or nokms) option !
Remove the “nomodeset” (and nokms, if used) boot option(s) from the kernel boot string used by GRUB
Do so via Yast > System > Bootloader > Kernel parameters … just remove that text only. Click okay and then reboot the system.
If, upon a reboot, you experience a problem, then we’ll need to see the contents of your Xorg log. I expect that won’t be necessary, and normal function will have been restored … In any regard, even if you now encounter a problem with the normal/default Grub boot selection, you’ll still be able to boot into the Desktop under the exact same graphic display conditions that you currently experience via the “Recovery Mode” option in the Grub menu when you start the system up.
hi, thanks for your answer…
if i remove “nomodeset” (and nokms, if used) boot option(s) from the kernel boot string used by GRUB → after reboot there is a black screen !
You’re system is having problems with the radeon kernel driver or
the radeon Xorg driver is having problems
To get a better understanding of which it is and why it might be, you have to state exactly at what point in the boot process the display going black occurs i.e. Immediately after the grub menu or do you see the plymouth splash? Do you see any console text output ? Do you get to the login screen? Does your Desktop Environment start …
