Hello!
I have a problem after “Loading Linux Kernel - 100%”.
It mean when I chose “Installation” or “Check installation media” after boot screen, I see “Loading Linux Kernel” from 0% to 99% and after that I see only Black screen for long time. Even NUM LOCK key or Ctrl+alt+del has no result
There is no a problem with 11.2 and 11.1(current OS).
Machine: HP xw8400, 2 CPU XEON 3.0Ghz, 4GB RAM, 2x250GB HDD SATA, NVIDIA Quattro FX 1500 256MB.
The same problem with VirtualBox (on the same PC).
Last line in “text mode Installation” is :
…
0.040974] Checking ‘hit’ instruction… OK.
53.076000] SMP alternatives: switching to UP code
i had mostly the same problem on my first try at the weekend.
I just burned the DVD very slow (slowest possible) and it worked after that,
maybe you should give a try too.
I’m not sure, because i have no this problem on my laptop HP nc6320.
And when I try to install 11.3 on HP xw8400 in VirtualBox with iso image_file(not from DVD) - I have that situation.
caf4926 Thank you very much!
Yesterday when I tried to use your arguments(acpi=off noapic edd=off) I have used VirtualBox on my 11.1.
But after that I have booted DVD_11.3(with your args.) directly on PC(not from emulators).
It has helped me! Now I have installed 11.3! very nice
Thanks caf4926
using the boot arguments “acpi=off noapic edd=off” for the installation solved the same black screen problem for me installing 11.3 from dvd on a Toshiba L675-s7052.
I’ve the same problem: black screen during installation OpenSuse 11.3 from DVD. But it is not cured using boot argument nether “acpi=off noapic edd=off” nor “nomodeset acpi=off noapic edd=off”.
I have workstation with AMD Opteron x64, memory 8 GB, videocard NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT. Before I have successfully used OpenSUse 11.0, but now I’ve removed it.
