Hi. I downloaded the opensuse leap iso file and burnt it on a usb, but when a tried to install, it started from the usb and then the monitor flicked for half a second and then everything went black. I don’t get to see the green screen with the install options for opensuse. The usb works on other computers, so I think is ok. The cpu is an fx 6300 amd with an nvidia 740 card, the cpu has no integrated graphics. Is the nvidia card the problem?
Hi
Try using nomodeset option at the grub boot screen. Press the e key to edit the install option, then arrow down to the linux (or linuxefi) entry and add nomodeset before showopts. Press F10 to boot.
I tried it, but there’s no grub boot screen or if there is I can’t see it because the screen is just black after the mobo logo that asks to press DEL to enter the bios.
Hi
So if you go into the system BIOS, can you set the USB device to be first in the boot order?
Is this a dual boot system? If so and Windows, is fast boot enabled?
Make sure the BIOS is in admin mode, so you see both the option to enter BIOS and the option to select boot device (usually F12 - but it can vary)
As Malcolm said. Make sure Windows is actually Shutdown and FastBoot is disabled in BIOS and in Windows
Personally I have experienced no issues so far with GPU’s during the install process
I don’t mean to hijack this post but I’m getting this same issue with a HP 255 G3 amd chip. It just post’s and hangs with a black screen. I wonder if HP (in my case) have prevented unsigned OS being installed? It came with win 8 and Ubuntu 15.10 boots and installs fine (which is an option to buy). I have tried other distros and they won’t boot at all either.
ps I am not dual booting or anything like that.
Hi
I have a 455 G1, press F10 to go to the BIOS, on the System Configuration tab, select UEFI Native (Without CSM). On mine on this page there is also a custom boot option which I point to the \EFI\opensuse\shim.efi file and set customized boot first in the boot order.
Also check the disk to ensure it’s gpt protective, not gpt hybrid in rescue mode, or from a 13.2 rescue cd.
Cheers Malcolm, I will look into these suggestions. I must say I am liking this device, especially as mine was only £59 after discounts!! Not as slow as I feared.
Hi
They a good machines, I have an SSD (OCZ) and pulled the DVD and replaced with a HDD caddy as well as added some extra RAM.
Yes I have to agree. I’ve already upgraded the RAM (annoyingly broke the f6 key in the process) and am going to upgrade the HDD in the near future. I hadn’t thought of the caddy idea… mmm that seems an awesome idea!!
As for my problem your advice worked a treat so thank you very much
Yes, I can enter the bois and yes it does start from the usb. it’s a new computer, without OS, but I gave up and I tried with other OS and they work just fine (OpenSuse 13.2 and ubuntu gnome 15) but leap does not. Now I’m working with ubuntu gnome hopping to fix this and install leap
