I installed Leap 42.1 about a month ago, never had any problems until yesterday. GRUB loads and I select OpenSUSE (I’ve got Windows 7 on the same drive) and following is nothing but a black screen, not even a blinking cursor or anything. I hit the reset button and wanted to boot into Windows to look up what I could do when I found some more strange behavior: hitting the down arrow (or any other key really) in the GRUB menu would cause everything to freeze. But only for about 10-15 seconds, then suddenly the 2nd option would finally be highlighted and I could freely move around without it freezing up.
I ended up rebooting over and over again every time disconnecting some more USB devices and turning off unnecessary things in the BIOS (serial port, onboard graphics etc) and eventually it managed to continue to the login screen again. I don’t really know why it did now and what was wrong with it, but I’m a bit worried about the next time I have to restart now.
The only clue I might have is that my sound card (Creative SB Live X-Fi) has disappeared, it’s no longer in any volume controls and doesn’t appear in hardware information.
I’m just using a USB sound card I still had now, it’s working fine and I don’t really have a problem right now. I’m mostly just wondering what this could possibly have been, and if there’s anything I could do in case this happens again next time I restart other than keep trying until it works.
